Committees

According to Staff Council Bylaws, "Members are required to serve on at least two (Staff Council or University) committees. Members may request the committees on which they would like to serve. Requests will be honored when spaces are available.

STAFF COUNCIL COMMITTEES

AppKIDS Committee - "Kindness in Donations and Service"
AppKIDS arranges a winter shopping day for needy children that may include contacting all Watauga County Schools and handling all logistics associated with the event.  The Chairperson will serve as an ex-officio member on the Fundraising Committee.

Chancellor's Advisory Committee
This committee gathers staff concerns, and then has a meeting with the Chancellor once per semester to discuss these concerns. Committee members may include up to ten members (currently filled).

Communications Committee
Responsible for the Staff Council website and publication and distribution of the "Staff Update", a periodic newsletter for staff employees.

Constitution Committee
Writes and submits to the Council any revisions to the Bylaws.

Freshman Move-In Committee
Provides support to Housing and Residence Life to assist in facilitating a move in day for freshman.

Fundraising Committee
Responsible for organizing all Staff Council fundraising activities including, but not limited to, the annual AppKIDS Shopping Day and Scholarship Committee activities.

Membership Committee
Maintains membership and attendance rolls, supervises the election of new representatives and alternates and records the results, presents this information to the Staff Council and notifies the Staff Council Secretary of any changes.

Quality of Life Committee
The committee submits recommendations to upper management in order to increase awareness of and facilitate improvements to employees' quality of life and implements plans to provide opportunities for the enhancement of staff qualityof life on campus.

Scholarship Committee
The purpose of this committee is to assist staff employees and their dependent children by allocating financial support raised by the Fundraising Committee for use in higher educational pursuits. The Committee publicizes the Staff Council Annual and Endowed Scholarships; receives applications and evaluates applications based on financial need and academic performance; and, makes awards based upon availability of funds.  The Chairperson must serve as a committee member on the Fundraising committee.

Staff Awards Committee
Staff Council and Human Resource Services accept nominations from staff, faculty and students annual Staff Awards. Four winning SPA and EPA non-teaching award winners receive a monitary award and special recognition during fall convocation.  Award Guidelines
